From 11.30 am it will be possible to visit the museum at the cost of €5 reduced entrance fee + €4 guided tour.
The design of the Villaggio Operaio di Panzano, built between 1908 and 1927, was commissioned by the Cosulich brothers to engineer Dante Fornasir. The Village, created to manage the needs of the workers of the Monfalcone Shipyard, houses housing of various architectural types for workers, employees and managers and is unique in the panorama of Italian industrial architecture. Unlike other Italian company towns, Panzano is in fact the only Italian Workers’ Village still alive on a factory that has followed its original production without interruption from 1908, the year of its inauguration, to the present day.
During the walk you can admire the buildings designed by the engineer Dante Fornasir, first among them the former Albergo Impiegati which, restored between 2007 and 2009, has maintained the original colors of the decorations, the central staircase and the hall of columns. We will then proceed through the area of the villas for clerks and executives, located in an area away from the center of the district and different from the workers’ houses for the eclectic style and bright colors of the decorations. After passing Viale Cosulich, and what remains of the railway that connected the Shipyard to the Ronchi Sud station, we will enter the heart of the Workers’ Village, admiring the buildings dedicated to corporate welfare such as the stadium, the area of the stores and the social spaces of the neighborhood. It will be possible to admire together the complex urban system of workers’ houses designed by Fornasir, distinguishing the different types and describing their characteristics. The walk will end at about 11 a.m. at the former Workers’ Hotel, a structure inaugurated in 1922 to provide accommodation for unmarried workers of the Shipyard, restored since 2008 in its exterior and interior spaces and now houses the MuCa – Museo della Cantieristica di Monfalcone. At the end of the free cultural walk there will be an optional entrance to the MuCa – Museo della Cantieristica di Monfalcone (Monfalcone Shipbuilding Museum) with standard guided tour fare or with an independent visit.
